Code of Conduct
AHME is strongly committed to diversity, equity, and the free expression of ideas. Taken cumulatively, the values and beliefs delineated within AHME’s code of conduct describes behavior based on a firm belief in the value of civil discourse and the free exploration of competing ideas and concepts – with a fundamental respect for the rights, dignity, and value of all persons.
AHME’s mission serves to promote improvement in medical education to meet health care needs; serve as a forum and resource for medical education information; develop professionals in the field of medical education; and advocate the value of medical education in health care.
To achieve its mission, the Association offers membership, holds professional conferences and meetings to enable its members to receive continuing education, build professional networks and discover new products and services for professional use. To provide all participants – members and other attendees, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, staff, and volunteers – the opportunity to benefit from the event, AHME is committed to providing a harassment-free environment for all, regardless of differences to foster a positive learning experience.
AHME, its members, and attendees will provide a professional, courteous, and safe environment in which all participants may learn, network, and enjoy the company of colleagues in a setting of mutual human respect. We recognize a shared responsibility to create and hold that environment for the benefit of all. Some behaviors are, therefore, specifically prohibited:
- Harassment or intimidation of any kind, including but not limited to race, religion, language, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, appearance, or other group status.
- Perceived sexual harassment or intimidation, including unwelcome sexual attention, stalking or unsolicited physical or electronic (I.e., email, texting, etc.) contact.
- Exhibiting disrespect verbally or physically by shouting at or threatening members and other attendees (I.e., speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, staff, or volunteers).
- Distribution or solicitation of unauthorized printed or electronic materials or verbal demonstrations.
Should any of these actions occur, anyone can report them to AHME staff or leadership. All such reports will be directed immediately to the President and Executive Director who will determine and carry out the appropriate course of action, in consultation with the AHME executive leadership team and legal counsel, as appropriate. Local law enforcement may be involved based on the specific circumstances.
AHME members and event participants are expected to always observe these rules and behaviors during in-person and virtual events. Participants asked to cease perceived or verified hostile or harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If someone engages in such behavior, AHME retains the right to take any action to maintain a welcoming and safe environment for its participants. This includes (but not limited to) expelling the offender or parties from the event without expectation of a refund, at AHME’s sole discretion. Actions violating
this code of conduct may also result in revocation of membership and/or participation at future AHME educational offerings and meetings.
