CPFD

The mission of the Council on Professional and Faculty Development is to improve the knowledge, competence, performance, resilience, and leadership of physicians and other professionals across the UME/GME/CME continuum at AHME member institutions. CPFD activities focus on continuing professional development, faculty development, performance improvement, accreditation, strategic planning, management, and evaluation of medical education programs for physicians and other members of the healthcare team. Faculty development efforts may include topics such as simulation, immersive learning, leadership, professionalism, feedback, physician well-being, mentoring, and accreditation.

Chairperson's Message

The provision of faculty development and the integration of quality improvement into graduate and continuing medical education are among the challenges for today’s teaching hospitals. The Council on Professional and Faculty Development (CPFD) is for AHME members who have responsibilities in these important areas. The Council plans a webinar and AHME Institute content designed to address continuing professional development, faculty development, and performance improvement for physicians and other members of the healthcare team. Members of CPFD receive subscriptions to the Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions (JCEHP), may apply for educational activity support through block grant programs administered by AHME, and have entree to a network of colleagues who produce medical education programs in the same setting and confront the same operational issues and opportunities. The Council aims to build and strengthen the relationships among its members. It is a networking organization that capitalizes on AHME’s Institute, Academy, Teleconferences, AHME News, Guide to Medical Education in the Teaching Hospital, Remediation of the Struggling Medical Learner, the Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions, Message Board, and Website to foster informal peer to peer relationships in order to facilitate the sharing of information, practical solutions, and best practices. The members of this council span both large and small institutions, and provide a wealth of resources to anyone involved in the leadership or administration of medical education programs at the institutional level.

The Council consists of members of the Association for Hospital Medical Education whose professional interests are in the leadership or administration of medical education programs at the institutional level. There is no additional charge, beyond AHME membership dues, for council membership.
